The
2011 selection was a difficult task due to the extensive use of quality
genetics that reflect the requirements of the Prime Lamb industry. On
top of this was the consideration given to the results of DNA testing
that has or will be conducted on all our sires we retain.
At
this stage several young sires will be retained across some sire lines
to enable better use of syndicate joining using the same breeding lines.
There
are plenty of sires listed here and they will be used selectively in
a synchronised joining program. Few if any older sires will be used
for next years joining.

Is the first ram from this group to be retained due to his exceptional
growth as a young lamb and outstanding performance figures. At
every inspection of the young lambs and at scanning, this young
sire caught the eye and produced exceptional scan data. Has been
selected in the SuperWhite program. Pity about his lack of cooperation
with photographs but 119492 is the ram at the back on the left
of the top group photo

Very stylish Langley Heights 160 son with good carcase depth and
structure. Again outstanding performance figures with plenty of
muscle and growth. DNA testing for meat eating quality shows this
sire to fit well into our objectives to produce tender lamb with
high levels of intra muscular fat. We could retain any of the
5 LH160 sons we have selected but we feel these 2 will serve our
program best. |

One
risk of using a sire that contains a mix of genes from several
breeds is variation and we certainly got that using the SWG 02
ram. However we did manage to produce some outstanding young sires
with do ability and muscle within a very compact and easy care
frame. 9611 is a great example of just what we were hoping to
produce from these genetics. Great carcase and structure along
with a silky soft type and very clean points. 9611 is from a set
of quads and has grown well despite the competition from his siblings.
Will be used as a single joining as well as in a syndicate.

and muscling picks this young sire. Pendarra 3050 and GP 3756
on the dam side of the pedigree and outstanding performance data
will help to retain him here at Pendarra. The SWG progeny all
have very sound structure and compact carcase with plenty of muscling
so fit very well into our breeding program. Pendarra 119338 may
be added to this selection if not sold for a similar reason. The
pedigree of both 9511 and 9338 are exceptional. See Rams for

You
would have thought we would not be wanting another 3050 son to
use in our team and although we have used 3050 to benchmark in
previous years we have resisted using another of his sons. However!
this young ram is too good to let go. Great carcase depth and
style, we will definitely find some ewes that will click with
him. The carcase on this young sire in identical to 3050.

A
very interesting son of 086802 and not what we have been used
to getting from him. This bloke has more carcase than we have
seen for quite some time and is probably the heaviest of the rams
we are retaining. Great strength and bone and a great frame packed
with muscle, I am sure we will find a place for him in our breeding
program.

SOLD
The
5630 line of breeding will play an important role in what we and
the industry hope to achieve, that is put high growth and muscling
in a sheep that has exceptional meat eating quality. It is therefore
lucky that this year we have some exceptional progeny from this
sire and we will more than likely retain 3 sons, all with special
attributes. This bloke is very similar in carcase to119581 above
with good carcase volume and excellent structure.

A
double 3050 cross this bloke is all class. An exception White
Suffolk type sire and plenty of carcase with plenty of presence.
A different type of ram to the other 5630 sons we are retaining
at this stage but he will retain his spot. Pleased this bloke
is not a Hypo carrier, especially given that 3050 is on both sides
of the pedigree.

This
Farrer 100170 son is very similar in carcase attributes to 119486
in that he has immense bulk of muscle on a very strong frame.
We had been hoping for just such a sire from the Farrer 170 sire
so he will fit our breeding objectives perfectly. He has DNA tested
fairly good for meat eating quality with an improvement for lean
meat yield so will be useful to build on that area of carcase
attributes. |

This
Pendarra 097551 son could well be one of the best young sires
we have, according to DNA testing he is miles ahead of where
he currently sits in the data base. All class and style with
a well balanced distribution of muscle with exceptional loin
length. We sold 7551 before we dropped progeny on the ground
so to see this bloke (and another not far behind him) come along
was stroke of good fortune. He is arguably better than his sire,
the way it should work.

A
son from Woolumbool 104817 which we used as part of the SuperWhite
allocation. Another heavy carcase sire with great softness which
may account for the fact that he is great for tenderness according
to his DNA results. Cannot fault any part of this sire and look
forward to progeny.

Classy
looking ram by the Supreme All Breeds Champion Ram at Adelaide
Royal 2010 out of an outstanding carcase ewe purchased at the
Detpa Grove 2011 mated ewe sale. Will provide an outcross for
our breeding program and important linkages to other seedstock
producers who have used Anden 090168.

Another
handy ram resulting from the purchase of ewes at the 2011 DG mated
ewe sale. A son of CONCORDE, (DG 100205), from
a ewe that includes ACC050627, this sire has plenty of caracse
and once again provides an outcross and benchmarking for our genetics.
The
2 rams from Detpa Grove ewes will provide us with an opportunity
to introduce new lines of genetics into our program and supplement
the gains we have made within our breeding program as well as
providing an important benchmarking opportunity.
